Gene Edwin "Bud" Sims

April 28, 1947 ~ October 30, 2018 (age 71)

Mr. Gene Edwin “Bud” Sims, age 71, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 30, 2018.

Bud was born in Etowah County, AL, on April 28, 1947, one of sixteen children of the late Henry David Sims and Jessie Irene Stone Sims.  He has been in the Shannon, GA, area since 1981, moving here from Alabama.  Bud was a truck driver, associated with W.C. Timber for a number of years and was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising game chickens.  Bud was an avid gardener who loved growing all kinds of things in his garden and was meticulous in taking care of his yard.  He never met a stranger and will be missed by his loving family and host of friends.  In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Bud is survived by his wife, Helen Dobbins Sims, whom he married on November 12, 1966; two daughters and son-in-law, Angela Darlene McGuire of Shannon, and Amy Carol Cothran and her husband, Butch, of Silver Creek, GA; two sons and daughter-in-law, Darrell Edwin Sims of Scottsville, GA, and Shane Lee Sims and his wife, Christy, of Rome; four sisters, Dora V. Clemmons, Stella Louise Greer, Judith “Judy” Darlene Wood and Shelby Jean Bickerstaff; one brother, Coleman Dale Sims and his wife, Barbara.  Twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon, November 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Floyd officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Bud will remain at Salmon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 1:30 p.m. and include Mark Boozer, Spencer Scoggins, Clay Hicks, Butch Cothran, Teddy Sims and Eric Sims.  Honorary pallbearers will include Arlie Warren, Don Edwards and John Godfrey.

The staff of Salmon Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Gene Edwin “Bud” Sims.
